Services – Incorporated in 1989, Armistead Mechanical Services, Inc. was originally founded to assist Armistead Mechanical with the growing need for HVAC service, retrofit, repair and maintenance. Acorn Plumbing & Heating, Inc. – Armistead utilizes Acorn Plumbing & Heating for select commercial and residential work in the New York Hudson Valley Region. Our affiliation with Acorn enables us to provide consistent and efficient service to our customers.
INDUSTRY & TRADE AFFILIATIONS
ARMISTEAD IS ASSOCIATED WITH THE FOLLOWING PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATIONS:Shortly after World War I, Robert A. Armistead began a residential plumbing and heating business in his basement and a garage behind his Jersey City, NJ home. The business grew quickly and he found himself performing light commercial and industrial work as well. Once his son, Robert Theodore Armistead, entered the business, it flourished and the company began concentrating on heavier commercial and industrial construction.

1950’s
By 1956, Armistead had prospered into a mid-sized mechanical construction firm performing millions of dollars of business a year. Incorporated as the Armistead Corporation, the company focused almost exclusively on commercial and industrial plumbing, heating, air-conditioning and process piping.

1970’s
In the early 1970’s, Armistead relocated to a larger office space in Kearny, complete with state-of-the art electric typewriters, 5,000 square feet of fabrication area and more than 12,000 square feet for inventory and equipment.

1980’s
Robert Theodore passed away in 1983, leaving his legacy and accomplished business in the capable hands of his sons. In 1987, Robert Thomas and Kevin Thomas formed Armistead Mechanical, Inc. and the company moved to Saddle Brook, NJ. A new affiliate company, AMI Services, Inc., was incorporated in 1989 to address the growing need for HVAC service, retrofit and maintenance work.

1990’s
The company continued to grow under Robert and Kevin’s leadership and the headquarters moved to Mahwah. A branch office was opened in Newburgh, NY to better service clients in the New York Hudson Valley Region.

2000’s
With the purchase and remodel of an existing building, the company moved its corporate headquarters to Waldwick, NJ. A new energy-efficient building, new clean room and enlarged shop was erected on the Newburgh property in 2008. This brought the company’s operation to a total of almost 50,000 square feet.

Robert possesses a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from Villanova University and more than 50 years of experience in plumbing, HVAC, process piping and mechanical construction. He is a Licensed Professional Engineer in NY and NJ and holds Master Plumbing and HVACR licenses in NY and NJ. During his US Navy military career, he served as an Engineering Officer aboard ship in the 6th Fleet. As an industry leader, Robert served as President of the New Jersey Mechanical Contractors Association, as a member of the MCAA national board and went on to serve as the national MCAA President. Additionally, he continues to participate in collective bargaining agreement negotiations with the Pipe Trade unions throughout NJ and NY and enjoys excellent relationships at the national level with the United Association leadership.
Kevin has a Bachelor of Science degree from Southern Vermont College and over thirty years of industry experience in management, estimating and purchasing. His expertise lies in plumbing, HVAC and process piping. Kevin is also the President of Armistead Mechanical's service company. Kevin is a graduate of the MCAA Advanced Leadership Institute. Kevin currently serves as an Officer for the MCANJ.
Rob has twenty-five years of experience in estimating, procurement, project management and accounting. He is a graduate of the MCAA Advanced Leadership Institute and serves on the MCAA Management Methods Committee. Rob is a member of the Construction Financial Management Association.
Joseph holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Northeastern University and has over twenty-five years experience in design and construction management in plumbing, HVAC and process piping. As a Professional Engineer, he is adept at managing projects from design to completion in the heavy industrial, pharmaceutical, hospital, water treatment and technology fields. Joseph joined Armistead in 1994, and he is a graduate of the MCAA Advanced Leadership Institute.
Rich possesses a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Manhattan College and has more than fifteen years of account and project management experience in pharmaceutical and industrial markets. As a Professional Engineer, he has managed projects from inception through completion for companies such as Pfizer, Merck, Phillips66 and others.
Eric has a Bachelor of Science degree from Kean College and over twenty years of experience with Armistead in estimating, purchasing and project management. He has managed numerous hospital, pharmaceutical, industrial and commercial projects and is adept at all facets of budgeting and computerized estimating.
Kane completed a Bachelor of Science degree at Keene State College and is a graduate of the MCAA Advanced Leadership Institute. He obtained LEED AP certification and also has a NJ Master HVACR license. Kane is responsible for all daily operations and profitability of Armistead’s affiliate service company.
