INDUSTRY & TRADE AFFILIATIONSARMISTEAD IS ASSOCIATED WITH THE FOLLOWING PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATIONS:
Shortly after World War I, Robert A. Armistead began a residential plumbing and heating business in his basement and a garage behind his Jersey City, NJ home. The business grew quickly and he found himself performing light commercial and industrial work as well. Once his son, Robert Theodore Armistead, entered the business, it flourished and the company began concentrating on heavier commercial and industrial construction.
By 1956, Armistead had prospered into a mid-sized mechanical construction firm performing millions of dollars of business a year. Incorporated as the Armistead Corporation, the company focused almost exclusively on commercial and industrial plumbing, heating, air-conditioning and process piping.
In the early 1970’s, Armistead relocated to a larger office space in Kearny, complete with state-of-the art electric typewriters, 5,000 square feet of fabrication area and more than 12,000 square feet for inventory and equipment.
Robert Theodore passed away in 1983, leaving his legacy and accomplished business in the capable hands of his sons. In 1987, Robert Thomas and Kevin Thomas formed Armistead Mechanical, Inc. and the company moved to Saddle Brook, NJ. A new affiliate company, AMI Services, Inc., was incorporated in 1989 to address the growing need for HVAC service, retrofit and maintenance work.
The company continued to grow under Robert and Kevin’s leadership and the headquarters moved to Mahwah. A branch office was opened in Newburgh, NY to better service clients in the New York Hudson Valley Region.
With the purchase and remodel of an existing building, the company moved its corporate headquarters to Waldwick, NJ. A new energy-efficient building, new clean room and enlarged shop was erected on the Newburgh property in 2008. This brought the company’s operation to a total of almost 50,000 square feet.
